Chapter 11

There are several traditional and emerging devices for audio and visual needs in the classroom.

Audio: One traditional device that could be used in a classroom is a talking book. Growing up when my class would be reading a short story in our textbooks, my teachers would play a tape that read what we were reading out loud. This was helpful to follow along at the same time with everyone else. One emerging device I could use in a classroom is Internet radio. The internet is growing and changing drastically every day. Now there are ways to listen to live radio. Also there are live and recorded programming from around the world. enhancing social studies, language, science and current events.

Visual: One traditional device that could be used in a classroom is overhead projectors. This is something that I grew up seeing in my classroom, and to this day, projectors are still used. Its a machine that projects an image much larger. This is helpful when working on worksheets and showing the whole class, and the whole class is able to see it. One emerging device that could be used in a classroom is broadcast videos. Broadcast videos are something I have never experienced using, or seeing in a classroom. Broadcast videos can show live or pre recorded television through satellite transmission. This is also similar to skype. Skyping can be used in a classroom, if the teacher wants a guest speaker to speak in front of the class, but the speaker is unable to come to the class.
